This information bulletin affects - NCM 2003

The following information describes the mold machine interface configuration for the NCU Module.

The Module contains 3 interface connectors. A 9-pin D type for connection to a PC serial port for using the NCUView programming software. A 25 pin D type connector for attaching the optional hand held touch screen (also containing parallel interface switches for testing purposes), and a din rail terminal board (internal) as displayed below. One should note that each input takes power from a #5 terminal to connect back to the input next to it. When an input is not being used a jumper can be placed on the din rail connector to force the input on. The most convenient point of contact on most mold units will be the robot interface connector as these interfaces normally contain contacts that shift during mold closed, start of injection etc.
Note: all input contacts are to be "dry type" contact with not external voltage connected.

X0 - wire 7 Intitiate Contact: While no cycle is currently in progress, closing this input will start a new cycle. This contact can be closed momentarily or closed and held closed for the cycle duration.

X1 - wire 8 Cycle Kill: Closing this input will send a kill cycle signal to the controller. This contact should remain open for normal service.

X2 - wire 9 Mold closed: The controller treats this input as a standard safety input which must be closed in order to initiate a cycle, and will kill the cycle if opened during same. If a purge cycle is due, purging will take place upon cycle end when this input opens. Note: The operator safety gate and purge shield must be closed for purging to take place.

X3 - wire 10 Safety Circuit: This input should be wired through the Purge guard swith and the operator guard switch (and any other machine safety contacts) in series. This input must be closed for a cycle to start and continue and for a purge to take place.

X4 - wire 11 Channel enable: These contacts must be closed (either jumped on the terminal connector or closed by the molding machine) in order to allow the controller to send a signal to its outputs. It is recommended that this input be wired to a relay that is closed when the injection press is placed in automatic mode. This will allow short shot tests to be performed when the press is placed in manual.

It should be noted that the SW-# wires are connected to the optional hand held touch screen interface (25 pin D connector) and are pre-jumped to the inputs. These jumpers may be removed for normal use if screen is not connected or the test buttons on the screen are not to be used.
